Thanks Helen, yes it makes a big difference to write down specific next actions - I usually find I can stop thinking about something once I've decided what to do next.

When reviewing my to-do lists, I find the most powerful and effective way to ensure I actually DO the tasks on my list! is to specifically note down the NEXT ACTION I need to take on any given task/project. (as given in David Allen's book)

[...] In my last post, I described the problems created by a never-ending stream of incoming demands: on the one hand, the constant interruptions can destroy the concentration required for creative work; on the other, endless to-do lists create the ‘Sisyphus effect’ – a feeling of hopelessness and demotivation. Some great reading and tips to be read over here! Click to visit article >> [...]

[...] Imprisoned in the ancient Greek underworld as punishment for his earthly crimes, Sisyphus was famously tortured by a never-ending task. He was condemned to roll a huge rock up a hill – only to watch it roll back down and have to start all over again… Wow this article pretty much sums up my average day! I’m freaking fed up with interruptions at work!! I use the day at work not getting any concentration and little work done at all, and lets not forget all the time wasted in meetings!! I usually end up getting some real work done at night, for the last 3 years i’ve been working after I come home to get things done, i’m getting pretty fed up with the whole occupation, i’m seriously thinking of getting a brand new job and quitting my current job. Was nice to read this article though.. I really miss the good old days when I made websites as a hobby… maybe its time to call it quits and get a real job?? LOL :o) Click here for the article>> [...]

Mjoshua - ouch! If the Sisyphus effect is the only thing making you hate it, hopefully we can sort that out for you - suggested solution coming up next week...

Chris - ouch again! Hang in there, there may be an alternative to closing the door.

I need to find a solution to the interruption problem because I have a storefront / office and I can't keep people from walking in the door.

But from your post I'm actually considering a "we're closed" time during the day and locking the doors.
